I have come to notice the only times I write in my journal is when I'm either ranting or being spiritually reflective. So it goes: "OMG I HATE MY BOYFRIEND" then "THANKS GOD FOR LIFE."

seriously man.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

today is the 60th anniversary of korea's independence from japan.

in celebration, i shall make a picture post.
plus, i'm bored.

so this summer has been filled with lots and lots of good food (mostly meat), good people (mostly family), good times. here are some pictures--taken in no particular order--in seoul, kyoto, aichi, and the suburbs and boonies of korea (kyoto and aichi are in japan). the real good ones will come in album form after i develop my pictures.

after a japanese bath, some grrreen tea with my cousin

we visited an expo at aichi. at the chinese hall, there were a wall of family names. guess what the first one was listed? CHO! is cho a chinese name? i do not know. side note: my sister is not taller than me. the ground was sloped

sueminn (the above sister, age 14) being an anime character

me and my cousin, yeowon, who cannot yet pronounce "s" because she's 5 and her tongue is short. my name sounds something like "tuhyanee unni" = big sister suehyan

view from the car window on the way to my dad's place in the country

me and my "bad" cousin haewon being azn's. don't you wish you could've been there. we were so hot.

this is part two of the campaign posted on japanese trains. part one is featured on my facebook account

bye bye

But since I won't be around for very long, they decided not to make me teach 6 hour SAT classes to kids who probably will be older than I. Am I sad? No, just filled with thought about how Ashley warned me not to sell my soul there..

I should've listened.

i love finals. everyone updates their blogs, because there is nothing else to do except study. and study is boring. so they'd rather chronicle their lives.
also, i get to see jake in a wrinkled shirt.
and everyone has dark circles under eyes, and dinner is boring because everyone is tired and cranky (ahem). also, it gives me a chance to discover many new things, like the fact that my worst enemy from middle school is still alive (i just found her xanga). i am not being sarcastic! i couldn't speak very well yesterday because I had been shut up in crerar. everything sticky makes me want to not touch people's skins. Zalaquett is a crazy guy. he was part of the Chilean National Commission for Truth and Reconciliation following the end of the Pinchot military regime. Dayam. I need to write that paper. This is weird. I want this to end. But I like finals, and the sunshine.

and air conditioning.

today i took a nap at the mccormick lounge.
i had a strange dream.
i don't know which came first, but at some point, i was in the south (texas, maybe?), running barefoot outside a white house. the sand was dark and very, very soft. there was a tan white woman inside the house with dirty blonde hair and tight ripped jeans, 80s style.

at another point, i was lying on the floor of a public locker room/bathroom naked. i couldn't get up; my eyes were too heavy, my entire body felt much too heavy for me to lift. i cried for help but no one helped me. i was trapped, by my own body, under all the heavy weight.

i woke up several hours later, and did not regret missing what surely must have been a rather unproductive time discussing parts of Kant that i did not read. the room was stifling. my friend john was lying on the couch facing mine. i did not say hi.

i biked home and worked on my financial aid.

<>In The Reef</>, Edith Wharton writes,

"Her questions testified to a
wholesome and comprehensive human curiosity, and her comments showed, like her
face and her whole attitude, an odd
mingling of precocious wisdom and disarming ignorance. When she talked to him about ‘life’ – the
word was often on her lips – she seemed to him like a child playing with a
tiger’s cub; and he said to himself that some
day the child would grow up – and so would the tiger (51)."

Oddly, it reminds me of myself.

So today I went to my little sister's concert at her elementary school.
The kids put me in a good mood after sniffing away the entire morning
from being sick. Children are so innocent! I remember when my other
sister, now 13, was in kindergarten, she fell off the stage -- it was
more like a step she was on -- from so rigorously waving at my dad (who
was also so proudly grinning and waving at my sister). I was so
embarassed then, but those were the good times...when my dad was still
with us to go to the annual Christmas concerts our school put on. Also,
those were the days when my sisters and I attended a private Christian
school, where we were allowed to sing about Christmas, and not have to
worry about being PC. Have I
ever told you I've teared up watching McDonald's commercials? Yea,
well, it was hard to keep my eyes from watering when they began to sing
about "who they'd like to see at Christmas." These 8, 9 year olds had
drawn faces of sisters, brothers, parents, grandparents, and raised
the pictures up while they sang. I know among them are children whose parents died on September 11, whose brothers are in Iraq, whose parents
have passed away to cancer. How could you not tear up? (Esp. when
you're pms-ing)

On second thought, though, I know someday I'm going to look back on this winter and reminisce...
I am very uncomfortable right now. It is 5:38am, Tuesday, December 7, 2004. Second day of finals week.

I have just come inside from biking in the rain (Shoreland to the Reg), and as I enter the library, what do I see? PEOPLE STUDYING. PLEASE, CAN YOU GET A LIFE AND ALLOW THE CURVE TO BE SLIGHTLY BETTER FOR ME?!? I don't know what is wrong with these people. I mean, come on, getting up at 5:10 to bike to campus with dave (doing a radio show) and going running as soon as the gym opens at 6 isn't as weird, right? And I promise you, once I get to the gym, there will be people studying. In the gym. On the bike. On the treadmill.

freaks.

mountain berry candles a-burning, jackson 5 a-singing, weather a-raining, life couldn't get much better than this butta.

speaking of which (butta), im not quite sure if i had a butta-ball
turkey, but i did have a turkey. and pie. lots of pie.

twas quite relaxing, actually. it had snowed wednesday night, and i went for a walk by the lakeshore early in the morning. muy bonita.

afterwards, dinner at dave's with his crazy <s>sexy</s> cool parents and bro at a chi-town suburb (freakishly like maplewood, reminding me of home along with garden state that i watched that day).

black friday: thai food and salvation army salvation shopping--mustard yellow pumps, mint green earrings, lovely grey coat, brown polka dot silk shirt..

in all, an excellent weekend, especially made so by mah homeslice in let's floss-the-moor <--wow that's really bad

see you in twelve blessed days, everyone.
